With almost 500 companies Germany is one of the global market leaders in the biotech sector. 22 of these companies are listed.
Nine biotech companies were floated in 2006/2007, generating income of € 111 million. Today 22 companies from the industry are listed on the stock exchange.

- About one third of German companies in the sector are Venture Capital funded. In 2006 VC inflows amounted to about € 260 million and about € 300 million in 2007.
- German biotech companies generate sales of around € 2 billion (+14 % compared to 2006).
